This medication is a prostaglandin eye drop helps reduce the risk of vision loss by improving fluid drainage from the eye.

What Is Lumigan 0.01%

Lumigan (Bimatoprost Ophthalmic Solution) is a prescription eye drop designed to reduce elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in individuals with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. These conditions occur when fluid (aqueous humour) builds up inside the eye, increasing pressure and potentially damaging the optic nerve, which can lead to gradual vision loss if untreated. The active ingredient, Bimatoprost, is a synthetic prostamide analogue that works by enhancing the natural outflow of aqueous humour through both the trabecular meshwork and uveoscleral pathways. By improving fluid drainage, Lumigan eye drops effectively lowers eye pressure, helping to prevent further optic nerve damage and preserve visual function.

Uses of Lumigan 0.01 Eye Drop

Lumigan eye drops 0.01% Ophthalmic Solution is mainly used to:

  • Treat open-angle glaucoma
  • Manage ocular hypertension ( increased pressure in the eye without optic nerve damage)

By reducing elevated eye pressure by helping fluid drain from the eyes, Lumigan a expensive drug helps preserve visual function and prevents further damage to the optic nerve.

How Lumigan 0.01 Works

Bimatoprost, the active ingredient in Lumigan, mimics the action of natural prostaglandins in the body. It:

  • Increases uveoscleral outflow (drainage pathway of eye fluid)
  • Reduces eye pressure steadily over time
  • Helps protect the optic nerve from pressure-related damage

The medication is typically effective within 4–8 hours of application and reaches peak effect in 8–12 hours.
